Just over a year after its launch, Gemini is set to replace Google Assistant on Android phones later in 2025

Has anyone tried to see if Gemini works with a wake word? What about with Bluetooth headset?

Oh good. Last time I checked, this thing can’t even handle “play music” and “navigate home” when I’m driving.

It needs to improve a lot, I don’t think 2025 is a good fit for this change.

And are they gonna have Gemini upgraded to have google assistants basic functions like calling and sending messages to contacts, setting reminders and timers, and actually give a response to a question that isn’t “it’s more complicated than it seems, here’s a 5000 word essay on your extremely simple question”?

So far they haven’t gotten a single toe, let alone a step, into the right direction.

I never saw any use for Assistant, it was bloatware and I used to immediately remove it and for me Gemini is just a pathway for Google to shill their more expensive subscription(aka Gemini Advanced). I know I can use it for free but to what end?

Maybe if Google could release useful stuff like the kind they reserve for Pixels to all Android phones, that had be better than another useless chatbot. But oops, that had hurt the exclusivity of their pixel devices, so they won’t do it.

My Android OS after a cold boot takes thrice the amount of RAM of my Desktop Linux OS. It is combined fault of both Google and my OEM Realme who built such monstrosity that Android is such a RAM guzzling monster. Even if I had installed Gnome on my Linux desktop, even then it had be lighter than my Android 15 phone which is exceptionally ironical.

I don’t want Gemini, Google. Gemini, for me, represents everything that is wrong with the OS. My 512 MB Lumia 520 was smoother than my 6 GB Android phone when taking photos. I don’t need AI.

I need simplicity. I need efficient code.
