You only mention your laptop is running out of space so you need to get a new computer? does your laptop have a soldered SSD? If that’s not the case, I think the reflex should first be to see what storage you can get your laptop so that you can keep using it rather than discarding it :(
im not sure this applies to Switzerland but Framework now allows freight forwarding within the EU it seems (it also seems recent as most older discussion says it was prohibited).

Also, I think a delivery to Switzerland is not too far out as they have finalized a keyboard layout a while ago and this is a necessary step before delivery.

But the hardest part will be reaching that Million threshold… We still have a lot of time, but the pace has certainly slowed down the last few weeks compared to the skyrocketing in the early days. We had captchas to solve that a while ago. Turns out, some people are willing to be paid a miserable salary to solve the captchas for bots. How would this be different? The fact of being a human becomes a monetizable service which can just be rented out for automated systems. No “personhood” check can prevent this.
The age of DRM means that they can now “unlaunch” the game and force you into a reimbursement while giving up the game. Why? What if someone liked it and wanted to keep playing? is this an online only game? This is just sad.

In the deep learning community, I know of someone using parquet for the dataset and annotations. It allows you to select which data you want to retrieve from the dataset and stream only those, and nothing else. It is a rather effective method for that if you have many different annotations for different use cases and want to be able to select only the ones you need for your application.
I would like to simultaneously better organize, rename and move my ISO files while still being able to seed them. How do people do both? my download folder is not where I want to keep my iso files for consumption and the often cryptic names of iso files can be annoying to navigate and manage so how can this be improved without sacrificing seeding? thanks!

I think it exists and works but that its simply not in their best interest to have people use it and be found out that they used chatgpt, for OpenAI’s business/profit potential. I have nothing to back it up but have just lost all faith in OpenAI.

I can very much imagine this being a short to medium term issue (and still an existential threat to Mozilla), but hopefully, this improves the situation to the point that there is no future company like google who artificially maintains control over browsers and search engines, rendering competitors dependent on these massive contracts? Recently started Fallout 3 on steam deck, am a few hours in, pretty good game! Love the freedom, the exploration, but it can occasionally be a challenging game with the fighting and various encounters. Story is good so far.
Exactly, this is about compression. Just imagine a full HD image, 1920x1080, with 8 bits of colors for each of the 3 RGB channels. That would lead to 1920x1080x8x3 = 49 766 400 bits, or roughly 50Mb (or roughly 6MB). This is uncompressed. Now imagine a video, at 24 frames per second (typical for movies), that’s almost 1200 Mb/second. For a 1h30 movie, that would be an immense amount of storage, just compute it :)
To solve this, movies are compressed (encoded). There are two types, lossless (where the information is exact and no quality loss is resulted) and lossy (where quality is degraded). It is common to use lossy compression because it is what leads to the most storage savings. For a given compression algorithms, the less bandwidth you allow the algorithm, the more it has to sacrifice video quality to meet your requirements. And this is what bitrate is referring to.
Of note: different compression algorithms are more or less effective at storing data within the same file size. AV1 for instance, will allow for significantly higher video quality than h264, at the same file size (or bitrate).
To be fair, resolution is not enough to measure quality. The bitrate plays a huge role. You can have a high resolution video looking worse than a lower resolution one if the lower one has a higher bitrate. In general, many videos online claim to be 1080p but still look like garbage because of the low bitrate (e.g. like on YouTube or so). If you go for a high bitrate video, you should be able to tell pretty easily, the hair, the fabric, the skin details, the grass, everything can be noticeably sharper and crisper.
Edit: so yeah, I agree with you, because often they are both of low bitrate…
I think the only thing to keep in mind is that Nvidias proprietary drivers work better for Linux whereas for AMD it is the open-source ones.
I have an Nvidia card and the prop. drivers have worked flawlessly for me for years.
I know the open source drivers are closing the gap for Nvidia, and they also seem to be playing ball on that front. But for AMD the open source drivers are definitely the way to go from what I understand.
