Dictators never retire, they die.
And never soon enough.
He’s going to stay in power until he dies or is overthrown.
Depending on how the war goes and how the economy functions with sanctions and a notably smaller population, that may or may not be “past 2024.”
He’s going to stay in power until he dies or is overthrown.
anyone able to overthrow him is going to make it a point to kill him as part of that process.
Anyone who is able to consolidate enough influence to actually kill Putin could be much worse. Unfortunately, that isn’t the worst that could happen.
The people are going to need to pull off a classic revolution and eliminate Putin, his generals, his army of oligarchs and any other warlords that may be in waiting.
If Putin was to jump out of a window by himself there is going to be a turf war in Russia so big, it’ll make the bolshevik revolution seem like a wholesome bedtime story. Other countries will need to jump in just to make sure that their nukes don’t get sold to any jackass with a few hundred grand.
Even worse, if Russia ever gets that weak, China may try and step in and take over. Or, any other country that feels froggy may try and assert control somehow. That’ll be messy.
Zekenskyy should play a reverse Uno card and “invade” Russia at that point. Start rebuilding a better, more democratic Soviet Union. But I would want Putin to be alive at that point so he can see others succeed where he failed, by doing the complete opposite of him.
Wouldn’t that be a twist of fate?
It’s probably a good option though. The anti-Putin Russian combat groups that are fighting for Ukraine now tend to be far-right. (What is happening there is the classic “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” scenario, if I had to guess.) It’s good that Ukraine has “third parties” to do small incursions into Russia when needed, TBH.
However, those groups are armed and would be in a good position to establish a larger political following should the war end with the collapse of Russia. Having a far-anything-political group gaining power probably isn’t a good thing.
My point is that I mostly agree. Having Ukraine take the reigns would be good, but extremely problematic. It would put Ukraine directly at odds with native Russian rebels or other groups chomping at the bit to take control.
well yes. all I was saying was… he ain’t gonna live long if he looses his power base. whoever took over won’t let that happen.
but you’re right, there’s a shit load of potential for things to go south. Like whoever it is selling off nukes to that angry Chechen douche. you know the one.
"We are not ready to give our freedom to this fucking terrorist Putin.”
— Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky, on Meet the Press, explaining why they must keep fighting.
“Duh” replies everyone else.
Thought he was dead.
Operation “Weekend at Vladdies” is fully underway.
Pitch that to Quibi
No shit, he’s a dictator.
Yeah? Thought this was the “News” community…
My question is how many lookalike döpplegangers does he have? Losing them to assassination attempts can’t be cheap since there probably aren’t that many old men who look identical to him.
