Just came across this on an old wish list, had completely forgotten about it!
Think I mustn’t have fancied paying full whack at the time as I wasn’t interested in the multiplayer or the dlc hype etc (I know, I know).
Anyway well worth a couple of bucks and saves the many now-unloved copies out there becoming trash so thought I’d share in case anyone else missed out!
I wanted to play it but even at $5 I don’t think I can justify giving them money after what they did to Mick Gordon.
Perhaps 2nd hand.
What happened?
The Doom Eternal soundtrack was super delayed, and Bethesda/iD put the blame on Mick Gordon saying that he missed multiple deadlines to finish up the masters of the tracks. (Iirc they also fired him and hired someone new to make the DLC soundtracks) Mick Gordon responded a while after with reciepts that proved that they gave him practically impossible deadlines.
Eh, didn’t like it much tbh.
It lacks the immediacy and simplicity of Doom 2016.
Eternal adds a lot of extra buttons to the mix, but it doesn’t make it more fun. Just becomes a needless faff. The story takes itself way too seriously as well.
It just takes everything that was great about 2016 and builds on it until you can’t see it any more.
It’s also on sale on PSN rn
Definitely not a fan of how either Romero or Carmack wound up being in the end, but I can’t deny they were pioneers
I’m out of the loop, care to elaborate?
Only thing I can say is that Carmack’s Wikipedia article reads like he wrote it himself before a job interview…
Not only does high intensity allow him to make progress more quickly, but long hours are also critical to maintaining a focused mindset over time. Despite working such a demanding schedule, he has never experienced burnout.
Long story short, both of them wound up associated to the far right. Romero was well known, but Carmack was invited to a convention specifically against “cancel culture”.
Well that’s disappointing.
There’s a lot more nuance than that. I can’t remember enough of the situation off the top of my head, but I remember there is is more to the story than that. I would recommend you read up on it yourself before you make up your mind from one comment thread.
I’m out of the loop on Romero with that, what happened there?
Awesome game. I keep meaning to do another plagthrough.
