An 11-year-old Virginia boy is charged in Florida with calling in more than 20 bomb or shooting threats to schools and other places, authorities said Thursday.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said during a news conference that authorities worked hard to find the caller before the school year resumes.
“This kid’s behavior was escalating and becoming more dangerous,” Staly said. “I’m glad we got him before he escalated out of control and hurt someone.”
Swatting is slang for making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to send a SWAT team or other armed police officers to a particular place.
This is why I don’t believe kids are “dumb” or deserve some kind of special treatment when it comes to absurd crimes like these. At that age, I was 100% conscious of what is right and what is wrong for shit like this, and I was also 100% aware that I could get away with so much because of my age. And I know a lot of you were too.
Not saying there are not stupid kids out there, but it’s so weird that people underestimate them waaay too much, you treat them like they’re mouth-breathing idiots that don’t understand the most basic shit like measuring the danger of this particular crime or lying about derailing a train for internet views like that kid from yesterday. Fuck that, prosecute them like adults in serious cases like these, this is another level, and question their parents too, they’re usually the main problem, not always, but very commonly so.
