Just watch the 2004 miniseries and show.
Skip the original and caprica.
Edit: I forgot there were a few made for tv movies. Watch those too.
https://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/3641/what-is-the-viewing-order-of-the-re-imagined-battlestar-galactica looks like a good list.
@Shadow @Dragon8cat or even just the first two seasons of the new show (just saying)
movie was good too and miniseries, etc
but seasons 3 and 4 , i dunno
1 and 2? amazingIt definitely had some weak points and the ending was a bit meh, but I wouldn’t call it “worth skipping” at all. Especially if you’ve never seen it before.
and the ending was a bit meh
“For the end of this science fiction show let’s throw in a very thinly veiled Christian allegory for no reason other than it’s what I want.”
Yeah, “meh” doesn’t even begin to cover how disappointingly bad the ending was. Absolutely skip it, make up your own head canon ending because you can’t possibly do worse than the actual one.

Exactly. Referring to the main star as “Kobol” which is a very obvious reference to Kolob (which is the star closest to where God resides), the 12 planets instead of the 12 tribes of Israel, being forced to flee their homes to go to a promised land, an IL-Cylon named Lucifer.
BSG is Mormon fanfiction
Fanfiction of fanfiction and it’s not just a slashfic?!
Just to counter-point (for OP).
I absolutely loved the ending, but I understand why many people find it wanting.
You’ll only know if the ending was “good” by watching it through and through yourself.
I thought Caprica was great. The ending was trash though.
Weird, I thought the beginning and end were gold while the middle was garbage.
The end was a montage, man. Ridiculous!
Because they couldn’t do the actual story.
I give them some credit for trying.
This is a good list. I watched it in this order and had a good time.
One of the best TV sci fi franchises ever.
So say we all.
The board game is fantastic too, one of my all time favorites.
Last I checked, it was out of print, so I bought Unfathomable instead (reimplementation in the Lovecraft universe). Still good, but missing pilots, so not as good :).
Nemesis is also quite good if you’re into that sort of thing. Although it lacks the secret character interactions of bsg that I loved.
Definitely. The first couple seasons of BSG are almost as good as Babylon 5. Though neither of those is quite as good as Firefly.
If you love sci-fi, it should be a requirement to watch.
Watch the remake and all the ancillary movies in production-order according to God’s plan.
You can skip young-adult-drama Caprica if you want.
Bull through the weaker parts of the main series, the writers strike had quite an impact.
Is it worth getting into? Yes.
The last episode of caprica is gold, the beginning is fine too. Got completely lost in the middle.
What does ancillary mean? Interestingly, I just got Ancillary Justice today and have been meaning to consult a dictionary.
ancillary /ăn′sə-lĕr″ē/ adjective
Of secondary importance; subordinate. Auxiliary or accessory.
“an ancillary pump.” Subservient or subordinate, like a handmaid; auxiliary.
I.e. the other movies don’t stand on their own, they depend on the main series for context.
It’s something to the side of the primary thing. That’s the best non dictionary answer I have.
First few seasons good. kinda has an issue with not knowing where it’s going from the beginning so I felt like the later seasons were just ‘making shit up’ as opposed to the story coming together. still worthwhile tho
The Writers Strike hit BSG and Heroes more than any other show. It was tough.
And Terminator: TSCC
And tune in NEXT WEEK when— err… we… Ehh… Cromartie goes shopping?
Don’t skip Razor
