I was kinda worried when I saw the subject line of the email.
Steam is actually pretty decent, by company standards.

That… actually explains the logic of this lawsuit for me. I still disagree and think they’re overly litigious fucks, but I think I might understand a less malicious argument for it. If someone mods a see 'n say to have a different audio track and slaps some new stickers on it, that’s still a see 'n say, right? The mechanism is fundamental to the product - a see n say is the spinning wheel -> random noise and Pokemon is video game where you throw balls at wild not-animals to catch them and use them to battle people. There’s a difference between a toy that’s heavily inspired by another one and being an edgy five year old with a firearm sticker pack who gives them to the cows and chickens and sheep.
I really have more of a games as art philosophy though, and I’ll just point to the works of Andy Warhol and Marcel Duchamp to make my argument here, my edible just kicked in.
So many forks, lol.
Winamp go fork yourself!
I love GitHub drama.
Anyone know if the Dolby code leak is going to lead to anything interesting, or had this code been leaked before? And how fucked are the Winamp folks?
Based on the little bit I know about both Russian military history and the stuff they do now, I suspect they’d be okay with that.
Especially the people getting this update, PC has had this update for like six months already, this announcement is for Switch and mobile versions. Android is the only one that can install mods and not always well.
I’m just glad it’s not Tubgirl.
Honestly, I’m just impressed the owner realized he was useless, and apologized. The franchise owner I worked for was an unpleasant, angry individual who would have just yelled at his overworked and underpaid employees for not keeping up with the lunch rush.
I knew someone who used to say this about the Republicans and abortion, that they used the issue for fundraising from evangelicals and they weren’t actually going to overturn Roe v Wade. I didn’t think she’s saying that anymore.
(Although immigration is very much a different topic, the oligarchs in charge mostly seem to realize that undocumented immigrants and H1B visa workers are much easier to exploit and abuse, so it’s in their best interest to not fuck with those programs too much. But DeSantis did and fucked up the citrus industry in Florida for a while…)
I’m going to disagree with you on the “is Mac better than Windows” front - I think there’s good arguments either way though. At least with a Mac, the end user is still, mostly, who they are designing for. On Windows the end user is becoming the product.
Another Jak and Daxter could be awesome, but I was so thoroughly disappointed in the Crash Team Racing remaster a few years ago it has basically made me give up hope that nostalgia-based games can be more than cash grabs.
Yeah but that broke GRUB and had a pretty specific error message associated with it. I don’t think problems with grub look like what OP is describing (although I don’t know enough to say for sure).
Anecdotally, I’m running a Fedora Atomic-based OS alongside Windows and that Windows update didn’t cause any problems for me.
Well, at least you’re forcing people to pace themselves.
Okay, I’m really curious how this will work officially. I’m one of those nerds who think it’s kinda neat that you can watch an entire baseball game in an Excel spreadsheet.
Is there any interest in a FOSS baseball/softball scorebook that can calculate stuff for you? Might be a fun project.
All sports have some level of risk. I’ve got permanent knee issues due to playing softball as a kid. IIRC cheerleading has the highest rate of ER visits for kids sports - the throws and the like are dangerous, and ime parents are slightly more likely to take moderately serious injuries seriously in girls rather than the “walk it off” mentality that my parents and a lot of others have. A shotputter friend has some horrifically wild stories about near misses at their high school.
Sports have a lot of benefit for a lot of kids though, you have to draw the line somewhere. And I think tackle football is over it, I wouldn’t ban anything else that I know of, but I’d definitely support banning youth tackle football. My parents refused to let my brother or I play tackle football as kids because of the danger, I think some awareness of CTE was out there even back in the 90s.
Got an extra USB stick and an old laptop kicking around you’re okay with wiping? Ideally 4GB RAM but 2GB would be okay. Start with Linux Mint and follow their installation guide - verifying the ISO image in Windows is probably the toughest part.
Or make absolutely certain you’re on the official Mint website, torrent it and don’t bother checking, I’m not your mother. “Who the f**k checks those anyway?” (Mint hasn’t been hacked since, but it’s part of why they’re pushing verifying, they know that their users have been targeted before. Also if something goes wrong with the download the install will fail and you’ll waste more time than if you just checked.)
If you don’t have a spare computer, a live USB can let you try Linux without making changes to your computer, but it’s going to be slow - a proper install is going to be a much nicer experience. If you’re okay without persistence (ie you can’t change anything or install additional programs for the next time you boot into it), just follow the Linux Mint website’s installation guide and stop before the actual install step. For persistence, try this method instead, but you really don’t want to use it long term, USB sticks aren’t designed for this.
Once you’ve tried it live and you think you like the desktop environment, but if you’re not sure you’re ready to fully commit, if your computer has an extra slot for an SSD you could buy a second one and dual boot, that’s what I did. (Dual booting on the same drive is doable but more of a headache, and even on a different drive Windows doesn’t always play nicely.)
I’m honestly surprised this little shit hasn’t become a cop yet.
