I think its a cool little project. If you like tinkering and screwing around with tech just go for it. But there are few things which come to my mind. Dont take them as advice against it more like pointers and things to think about.

1. As much as i miss them as a common feature in todays phones. Headjacks on phones were most of the time kind of shit. I had 30€ mp3 players which provided better audio quality than the Z1 compact i had at the time. Idk if the XZ1 got way better? I think the issue is that most phones had terrible D/A converters. But dont quote me on that. But this is only a concern if you have high standards for audio quality for wired headphones. If you use something with bluetooth the point becomes irrelevant. LG V series phones were really good in that aspect and also pleased the audiophiles. They are much bigger bricks though. If you want to use it mostly for audio a used mp3 player might also be a way to go because they can be even smaller.

2. Installing customroms isnt that hard if you can follow a guide and you are able to use a searchmachine on your own. But its still easy to mess up. I messed up quite a lot over the last 15 years. But atleast my mistakes were always recoverable. Just dont rush things. Take your time. Read up as much as you can before you start the process. Biggest issue i see that there isnt an official build for lineage. With that also no official documentation/install guide which you could just follow religiously. My experience is that those builds provided on the XDA forums come with as little information as possible. They just expect you to know your shit? With that often comes a bit of ambiguity because you’ll probably find different answers for the issues you search for. It can slow things down a bit and involves trial and error. But in the end i always managed to get things happen and i dont have any professional background in tech.

3. You might want to read up on how easy it is to swap the battery. These phones and with that their batteries are getting old. But in my experience there is for almost every phone a video teardown on youtube.

4. Biggest battery drainers are the antennas. Without a simcard, no wifi, etc phones can last ages. I use my old phone for a similar usecase as yours. It doesnt get too much use but with that i need to charge it like maybe every 3 weeks or so. Its crazy.

5. If you want to use the camera you might want read up on if the XZ1 is still a sony phone were the camera quality drops significantly with a customrom. They changed that some years ago. But idk when exactly.

6. If you want to use it as an offline device mostly for audio anyway(just assuming, idk) maybe just try out the stockrom a bit. It could fullfil your needs already perfectly.

7. Check out Emulators. That snapdragon 835 should play anything easily up to the Dreamcast and PSP maybe even some lighter PS2 and Gamecube Games.

Because these glasses are quite powerhungry. If i remember correctly from a review a steamdeck used 5W more with the glasses plugged in and the built in steamdeck screen off compared to the steam running regularly. IDK how much the oled screen of the steamdeck consumes but the glasses consume those 5W on top of that!

A built-in battery for an adequate runtime would make those glasses even heavier, bulkier and goofier then they already are.

Coordinated astroturfing on reddit isnt even a new thing. I had the chance to watch how the whole marketing efforts for the Burnout Paradise remaster unfolded from the very first minute . That was back in 2018. It was so blatant how all the posts popped up on the same minute on several different subreddit and then slowly filled with obvious shill comments which got unnatural ammounts of upvotes. I mean there was also some natural engagement. Its still a beloved franchise. But that made it even easier to pick out the tonedeaf marketeer comments since the remaster wasnt that great and it already showed in the prerelease footage. Astroturfing was probably a thing from the very beginning of reddit. But thats the first example i noticed because it was just so obvious.

Gotta love the sony hardware. It would be the perfect phone for me if - and thats a big if - i had the money to throw 1500€ at a phone. But yeah, SD-card slot, dual front speakers, headphone jack, sick camera setup, no punchholes, no stupid 4k screen anymore and now even with acceptable software support. I think they also still have unlockable bootloaders and the camera wouldnt be crippled by it anymore like 10 years ago? But 1,5k… nah, i’m good.

My dear lemmings. Remember there were exactly two reputable Switch emulators. Yuzu and Ryujinx. Both got shut down by the big N in one way or another. I’m sorry but everything since then was based on the work of the prior mentionend projects without major improvements but was filled with shitty drama. Wait it out. Thats my take. There might be a real alternative on the horizon. But so far all of them just burned out in the stupidestest way possible.

The first thing i noticed is the awful amount of TAA/Upscaling artefacting. Apart from that it looks good i guess. I mean its GTA. It will probably be an enjoyable game. But still: Fuck Rockstar. Fuck Take2.

Apart from that i was pissed at Valve for the cliffhanger at end of EP2 with no follow up. But that was 15 years ago. Seriously its been over 10 years since i decided that i just stop care about this franchise. Still played Black Mesa when it finally hit 1.0. That was nice a throwback. But HL3? I just dont care anymore. Might check it out if it ever gets released or i dont. idk

Because Beamng runs their own mod repository which is even accessible ingame. This isnt about some random mod hosted on a randrom 3rd party site. This mod was released and distributed over servers and a services which Beamng as a company runs themselves. So reading a whole ass month after the incident my system and my passwords were potentially compromised fucking sucks. I’m not blaming them that the mod got uploaded. I’m blaming them that they made no attempts to publicly communicate: “yo, a mod containing malware got uploaded to our service and 3000 users downloaded it before we got informed that it was infected. If you happen to have downloaded the mod in x timeframe your system was likely compromised. Sorry yadda yadda”

I had the mod installed in the timeframe were it had the malware. Fuck me.

But what really pisses me off is that i read about it first here on lemmy. Not on the Beamng forums/repository, not in the game, not in the steam announcments of the game. Like you distributed malware over your platform and the policy of you fucks is just to stay silent? Meh.
