That’s less than a $50 fine for each grift. Also, 20 trips totalling $13k is only $650 per trip. Granted some of those are probably short interstate flights, but that smells like an undervaluation to me.

Note that he acknowledges his decision is “not popular” - seems like opposing genocide is still a minority position in Israeli society. That doesn’t bode well for the Palestinians that Israel hasn’t killed yet.

As someone who grew up outside the US and lives here now, I understand how incomprehensible it can be that there’s not a full uprising against the current fascist coup.

But I think the idea of restricting access to knowledge in order to benefit a select few predates capitalism. The ancient Chinese state iron and salt monopoly is the first example that comes to mind, some Greek mystery cults probably count too, even if we don’t think of that knowledge as beneficial now.

I’d guess it’s a common feature of strongly elite-dominated societies, of which capitalism is just the current model.
