I understand that. I’m just wondering if you can push these rulemaking bodies to the legislative branch and what it would look like.
So, as a dumb question, what would it take for all rule-making bodies to be under the legislative branch instead of the executive branch? Do you devolve the responsibility to one house only? Do you require elected officials on these committees or can you devolve these tasks to a legislative controlled body?
It is funny how people have criticized American tech bros and praised Chinese development when it appears that they were both using the same fundamental investment philosophy.
Even government agencies price a human life around $5M. This is shockingly cheap.
The Chinese ship actively blocking a rescue operation until they fully understood the potential blowback.
I saw this movie. Did it involve bringing kids to outer space and an AI robot that just wanted to help?
Part of the discussion with US rail is that American rail carries some freight service and it would be better environmentally to maintain that service than go all passenger.
For profit companies have shown themselves as being bad at running freight rail, but the solution to public rail needs to include freight.
China didn’t want to get caught with proof killing Filipinos in Filipino claimed waters.
This is a fundamental sticking point between people who believe in any form of capitalism and communism. If someone develops a method of creating a surplus of labor, under communism, they have no right to that surplus beyond the surplus they would get as a worker.
Yeah. I think a lot of people hear Chinese millionaire and think of someone like Jack Ma. The problem in China is that a millionaire can include roles like plant manager and senior designer, people you need to continue developing the economy.
China is definitely pumping money into its manufacturing capabilities, but I don’t think cornering the international market is why.
What appears to be happening is that local officials pushed an industrial development policy to make economic numbers go up. Some provinces got to the point of building factories and leasing them out to companies for that sweet economic growth.
The Chinese national government is trying to find a market for this since it can’t afford for all Chinese local investment to be bad. Developing countries don’t have the funds for the cheap solar output and the other industrialized nations are putting up trade barriers since they are running massive trade deficits with China already.
He’s expecting the far right to do a shit job at governing while he is still President and hopes this kills their popularity.
Or we could see a reimagining of the EU as it transitions from a national led organization to a supernational one. We are already seeing some national heads make moves to support their party over nation in EU politics. It is possible that this continues as politics in the EU becomes more important than member nations, especially as the EU starts gaining increasing budgetary and policy power.
Germany also has an economy that is most threatened by China’s increasing manufacturing prowess, both within the EU and outside of it.
It is also becoming apparent that Merkel’s leadership was in just being able to maintain the status quo, something that Germany can’t do now.
Reform property taxes to avoid squeezing out homeowners.
California has that property tax; it is not going as well as you would hope. It helps encourage communities to keep from allowing more density and freezes people in their homes as they will never be able to afford moving within their communities.
Lemmy was designed to be a place where communists would have a community. Some instances weren’t, but a lot of the original ones were.
That’s fine, but someone has to pay for it.
Squatting is only legal over time.
It is been a plan for a while in the USA to shift launches from government run to private run for over a decade. This is just an implementation of that strategy.
That is if there is still an optical drive market in the future.
Sony never made a big deal of how the PS5 can play Ultra HD disks the way they did with DVD and Blu-ray. Ultra HD sales seem a lot smaller than previous renditions. You also have a lot of content being kept behind the streaming paywall rather than getting released.
I don’t think there will be a large enough market to support 8K, backed up by the fact that a specification has been written but no one wants to go forward with making the disks and drives.
