As far as I known, subsonic is currently closed source and other reimplemented the api with open source programs. Than some people got together to make a standard that was not tied to a closed source programs.

Depending on how many people you want connected, could try something like tailscale or zerotier. I been using tailscale and I think it is easier.

I love my copper D4V2. The only down sides are at full brightness it will get hot and it can deplete a battery fast.
