Yeah, I mean you never explicitly stated it wasn’t the fault of the Israeli’s here. But I think that is still implied by what you said, and that’s why people are raging against you.

There’s a nuanced issue here about fault and responsibility, I think. The Israelis are absolutely at fault for any mistreatment of Greta (or any prisoner), and the Israelis are responsible for their actions, but Greta is also responsible for putting herself in harm’s way. However, Greta isn’t necessarily at fault for doing so, and furthermore her responsibility for her own actions must in no way detract from the responsibility nor fault by the Israeli forces.

Responsibility isn’t portioned out in percentages. Someone can be 100% responsible for something, but someone else can also have some responsibility. However, fault is portioned out, and a victim is in no way at fault for the fault of their attacker.

But your original point was that Greta “provoked” the Israelis. This is you implying fault. And I don’t think you can reasonably justify this assumption.

This is classic victim blaming. “You knew you would get attacked, so it’s your fault, not the attacker’s fault.”

Her goal is to get food to starving people. Media attention furthers that goal, even if they don’t succeed directly in delivering food.

However this isn’t really true, and @Lumisal@lemmy.world is correct that this isn’t really what they’re doing. It’s how they think they’re behaving, but they have a distorted view on history and see it through rose tinted glasses, often trying not to conserve but to “restore” society to some half-cocked version that never really existed.

I’m just glad they didn’t go into a protracted and expensive legal battle with this one, which isn’t exactly a good use of donated funds.

I agree with /u/gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world, “dropping off the grid” is something you do to yourself, ie when you’re trying to hide, not something someone does to you. The language used in the article seems to be intentionally misleading and waters down the story of the government disappearing people.

It could be that some people released did indeed drop off the grid, and went into hiding themselves, in an attempt to avoid further persecution from the government. However out of 1,800 people it seems like most of them have rather been “lost” by the government and were never even released.

Exactly. On the surface it sounds like they’re being somewhat reasonable, but the reality of what they do when they’re in there is likely going to be different.

It’s a bit more nuanced. If you’re in North America, it’s more likely than not that you’ll have a Californian tomato. If you’re in Asia, it’s probably Chinese. If you’re in Europe there’s a lot of clout for Italian tomatoes, but you’ll probably see a lot of local produce front and centre, with maybe some budget options from another country or in the off-season.

But ultimately water shortages in Cali are going to have little effect on Europe. Prices on the shelve are so far removed beyond cost that a global market price rise caused by the shortage won’t have a massive effect on the price consumers pay - we’re already paying as much as they can get away with charging, at this point it doesn’t really matter much what excuse they use to raise the price because they were already planning to do that anyway.

American produce is not found on the shelves of European supermarkets. Even big franchises like Dominos, they source more locally than that.
