Excellent comeback there.
Excellent comeback there.
Well, maybe we like open spaces more and some of us prefer not living right next to shopping and activity centers? is that so bad? Not to us it isnt. Different strokes for different folks. The village I live in is very walk-able. We take walks all the time. So do lots of people. Kids that live close enough to the local schools walk to school also. Most have a fairly short ride which does require a bus.
However, no, we do not walk to major shopping centers, our jobs, etc. So what? Who has the right to say were wrong for using cars as needed or desired? We like our acre sized lots. We like having some privacy. We like our yards, patios, etc, etc. It doesnt make us monsters. Its just how we roll. We dont tell you what to do or how to live in Europe, right? Of course not. I could say the same thing about you “missing” out on our small village living(of course any small local shops can and do get walked to) and open spaces. You like it all packed in and close. We dont. Thats OK. No one is right or wrong here
You have 700 million people but its broken up by separate countries. You dont think that makes it a tad different than the USA which is a melting pot of… yeah, lots of European people and various other nations? It sure does. Gee though, I thought I did agree somewhat they we do need to embrace the smaller car.
How did we get on colon cancer? LOL. How does a heavily progressive eh hem “education” which is infused big time with propaganda make someone better at being a politician? I didnt say replace doctors with landscape guys. C’mon. I simply stated that alls you people want is more social studies majors running the country and quite a few of us do not. Dont make statements that are false.
What facts? Oh…here it comes: Global Cool-changing-warming-thing? Socialistic monetary policies? Anti-personal liberties? facts, eh? Sure.
No, you tell me. Educated can mean a lot of things. To YOU and your buddies it means the standard path through some progressive institution which has produced a large population of weak, victim-driven babies that need crayons and safe spaces. Look up the brilliant Jordan Peterson and he’ll lay it out for you how badly the higher education system has failed kids. Warning: He uses facts and doesnt care about your touchy-feely crap.
How does quality of life suffer when we own our own homes, have privacy, safe neighborhoods, decent schools, peace & quiet, etc. Help me out here? Not everyone wants to live on top of each other in some clustered city. Thats fine if you do but people should have a choice.
I have not been to Europe but comparing Europe to the USA doesnt work. We have 300+ million people. We have a hugely diverse population with both religion and culture. Texas is larger than almost every Euro country. You should understand easily why there is no way to compare the two.
Actually, there are numerous trades and other careers where you dont go to college and do very well. But please keep voting for people with degrees in History because thats working out awesomely.
Yes, minivans work too. The point is that I do agree that most people can handle their travel needs with smaller vehicles. Im not arguing against you here.
I agree, it was. Good thing no one will be falling for that again. Lesson learned!
So - as I expected: Must be “educated” at a specific university that only caters to the aggressive left. Sorry but our Govt. is loaded with many such folks and they suck at what they do.
And, nicely done too on the derogatory comments towards business owners. Another typical play of the whiny, “victim-riddled” left. Of course, never mind that without business owners no one has a job and there is no economy. "Stepped on everyone’s heads’. Yeah, great. Did you sign up for the wrong Lemmy? There is a communist/socialist version where you can go play.
Book burning? Got a link for that? Oh, you mean limiting or restricting access to very inappropriate material for underage kids? Because, you know, protecting kids is also bad policy. Sure, Jan.
Anything else? LOL.

Well, yeah you can always pay for delivery or rent a truck for a new couch or fridge. If you are a contractor though you do need a larger vehicle. A family of 4-6 people do need the space afforded by an SUV or four door truck. Not everyone lives in the city nor wants to. You can’t assume everyone’s needs based only on city living.
Zoning laws exist to protect property owners from undesirable developments in their communities. I know it drives the “do gooders” crazy that they can’t just drop Wal marts and crappy apartment buildings all over the place but that’s what zoning exists for. Wrong and middle class people worked hard for their homes and they have a right to protect that investment.
Sure am. Why? Do you really think all the BS we endured with the Covid mitigation was worth it? Pretty clear it certainly wasn’t. People losing their jobs due to not getting the “Fauci Ouchy”? Shutting down small businesses while Home Depot and Wally World stayed open all day? Kids sitting home doing nothing for two years versus being in school where they belong so they can develop and learn? Telling us that we can only have six people over for thanksgiving ?
Yeah, no.

Just more fallout and consequences of the SHAMdemic. What a bunch of horse poo that whole thing was.
Small cars for basic errands, daily travel and that kind of stuff, sure. But, people still do need larger vehicles for various tasks. What drives me crazy are seeing individuals doing said daily tasks in giant four door pickups or big SUVs. I just dont see the point. We have a RAV4 in the household but have smaller cars for single person trips and stuff.
No problem on the religious thing. I cant STAND organized religion and their “our way or the highway” mentality.
As for teaching about caring & accepting of others whom are different: Sure - but there is a way to do that without it getting political or preachy. As long as its done 100% non-politically and has no feeling of a an agenda then fine. I do think however that sexuality issues are much better off saved for like 8th grade or so. Thats when we learned about such things. 5th grade or even earlier is far too young, IMO.
I never said religion had any place in schools - it does NOT and thats why it has been removed. Where did you pull that from? Im not into organized religion at all. I just dont think or believe that 5th grade is where we start chest-thumping about trans stuff. Way too early. It shouldnt be “normalized” since it really isnt.
Is there unbiased data that says the fires were started due to climate change? Either way, time for Canada to out these fires out. Like get a hose and some water.
Can you get education through life experience too? Thats kind of what I was getting at. Wisdom and experience are NOT part of any college study. I think you’re over generalizing and stereotyping non-college grads as if they are lesser people than those who did go to college. No way they could possibly think for themselves or see whats actually going on out there without some college professor leading them by hand. C’mon. I only disparage higher education because of what it has become, not the idea behind it. You dont think safe spaces, feelings mattering more than facts, ragging on capitalism, etc. which are all big things at colleges are preparing kids for the real world? Oh and these warm-hearted colleges dont mind sticking these kids with $200K in loans for their degree in Dandelion Botany. Classy move. Talk about “manipulation”. Damned right.
There are a ton of super successful, happy people whom are very intelligent that didnt step foot in any University. Sorry they didnt follow your prescribed path.
For the 800th time: Religion does not belong in public schools and it isnt any longer.
