  • Slackware took like 40 3.5" double sided double density disks, and woe betide the poor soul who didn’t label them because the stack was a foot high and you damn well would get them mixed up.

When doing it from home I would frequently run into issues that required me to completely reinstall dos and Telemate to go back to usenet and get help, print the help and then take another stab.

Dos and Linux had different opinions about SCSI chain termination so this usually involved full cover off to move jumpers on the hard drives and sometimes irq jumpers on the motherboard to get the modem AND sound card working right.

Then the fact that to get online once you had slackware installed required you to write your own SLIP/PPP dialup scripts because every ISP was doing their own thing.

Honestly it was a fucking wonderful time. Many happy memories.

  • I’ll tell you this and I would love to know if anyone agrees; Starfield’s entire ship combat mode is stunningly similar to the Wing Commander series. I’d bet the farm some lead devs or PMs were fans of WC.

    Granted you are always going to be limited within a genre however to me;

    • the views feel the same
    • ship handling is very very similar
    • the way you transfer power between systems is identical in practice and visual design
    • weapons are similar in function and feel
    • enemy ships come at you in similar counts and formations

you can’t control individual shield direction and you can’t ram enemies and do damage but otherwise every time space combat starts i expect a little PIP cat to start talking shit.

  • the OG one would be the Doomsday Clock

The Doomsday Clock is a design that warns the public about how close we are to destroying our world with dangerous technologies of our own making. It is a metaphor, a reminder of the perils we must address if we are to survive on the planet.

When the Doomsday Clock was created in 1947, the greatest danger to humanity came from nuclear weapons, in particular from the prospect that the United States and the Soviet Union were headed for a nuclear arms race. The *Bulletin *considered possible catastrophic disruptions from climate change in its hand-setting deliberations for the first time in 2007.

  • there’s a new fast food drive through near me and if you buy a $13 burger with plastic they turn the little machine to you at your car window and expect you to enter a fucking tip.

I’m an overtipping bastard. I learned to tip from Steve Martin in My Blue Heaven. i love to tip.

I even tip at the weed store and the liquor store if they give me suggestions or any kind of service in addition to ringing me up.

YOU CAN SUCK MY DICK ASKING ME TO TIP IN THE GODDAMN DRIVE THROUGH!!!

I’m not eating there because the burgers are too expensive for how good they are ($5.50 for a plain kids burger come on) but even if I loved the food i’m not tipping for fast food.
