You would think nearly half the voting population would agree and not support those that do. But here we are. Boggles the mind.

I was more aminable when I was paying $14.99 for YT Red Family plan. At $23/mo it’s pretty expensive and I want new features/controls for that money
Ya, just an infrastructure where their ads have to go into blocks within the video (inserted wherever but tagged as such)
Generally an Unpopular opinion, but I think this should include creator ads (or at least an option per creator to support them by turning on their own ads).
Defaulted to off , I don’t want to watch a random videos AG1 ad. That said there are a couple creators I watch I would be willing to enable theirs strictly to support them.
Because if I’m paying for ad removal it should be complete ad removal.
Whether true or not there are back doors , as there will always be no matter where it’s hosted. Unless we got access to the full source code .
But a “kill switch” doesn’t address the issue. I mean while it’s “killed” it does but whenever it’s not, the data privacy concerns are in full swing.
That’s a lot of “ifs”
haha, ya… Such well placed money there.
Its crazy how much further ahead Europe is in Privacy Protection.
All these companies need to be held responsible for what they do with our data, and what it costs them when they lose control of it. Either figure out how to safe guard it or suffer painful consequences. Or perhaps only store what’s necessary for us to interact.
Almost like we should focus on making the US better / competitive instead of trying to succeed by blocking others.
Don’t we get a ton of components and raw materials required for EVs from China already?
Came in to say exactly that… The Irony is thick, and likely unfortunately lost on people that will approve it.
For now at least, I block as much telemetry at the network level (DNS level) using pihole.
Annoys my wife and kid at times. I try to explain why and what it means but convenience is king unfortunately.
I believe the biggest thing that will hurt MS is moving to subscription. The vast majority of users aren’t gonna wanna have a forever fee when they buy a laptop/PC
Ya, a PR nightmare for the next 15 minutes until the next unbelievable thing comes along and the ADD nature of people forgets windows is watching everything they do.
And as long as people keep subscribing to them, they’ll March right along collecting that sweet money.
Crazy random crap breaking!
Latest thing I noticed is at least with the home devices you can no longer get who/what band is playing.
It only tells you the song name. The band/artist is the primary reason I ask, not the song title.
Ya, all you have to do is install something different on every device you own/watch YouTube on.
You also, have to be technical enough to side load, or compile revanced etc… I’ve heard over and over that ubo keeps having updates/changes to keep yt ads down.
I actually am technical enough to do those things, but both doing and managing these various apps across multiple devices in my house is a lot of work. Or, I can just pay for the music and TV I watch.
For the record, I also have and paid for GrayJay app on my phone and do also use it on occasion. We have used smart tube TV in the past because when my son was younger Google had shit parental controls and we couldn’t allow his child account to access regular yt (restricted). I’ve got it side loaded on both our Nvidia shield and gtv devices. Too bad it doesn’t work on android TV, or my wife/sons iPhones.
I’m no facebook fanboy by any measure. I miss Forums, but everyone moved to FB groups. (at least 90% of the people/content). I am on FB, I manage my FB feed. I unfollow/unfriend “crackheads” as someone else called them. I only follow people that mainly post their own content, not forward shit, or post news etc.
I was mainly there to share public “stuff” with my remote family (both parents were 300-600 miles from us) and we had a young child (both parents first grandchild).
I now mainly use FB for groups of my interest, because that’s where the people are. I also sell stuff on FB market place, because craigslist is a ghost town.
Between managing my feed/friends, using ‘social fixer’ browser extension and Pihole I rarely see ads on there. Certainly not on my PC. The the App can sneak in some, but I hide/report any ad I see.
It works for me. I don’t live on there by any means but go there for interest groups.
