It’s amazing how many people don’t get this. YouTube was never “free” to begin with. We paid heavily with our data and privacy as google changed its business model to surveillance capitalism. Now google is getting people to fork over actual money in addition to that.

The issue isn’t ads per se even though they are annoying. I use DDG which is ad supported. It’s the big tech control over most of the internet and the complete eradication of privacy and control under surveillance capitalism.

DDG. But might switch to Kagi. I already use Orion which is hands down the best Mac/iOS browser.
