Loans were funded in the Duterte era when relations between China and the Philippines were much more friendly than they are today.

China makes its "partner"s loan slaves, also they say its mandatory to do the build process by chinese too, for very expensive, and low quality. We see this in hungary.

@Detectorist huh? The IMF does not specify who you use as labourers etc.

The IMF doesn’t care what you do so long as you de-fund health and other social services to pay them. How it got its nickname Infant Mortality Fund, more babies die.

All loans come with strings but they are different strings.

Well unlike clueless people like you I actually work in tech and know first hand that stereotype still exists for a good reason. If you want cheap shit China is still the way to go.

      https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2021/02/china-debt-trap-diplomacy/617953/

Stop repeating the propaganda that is thinly veiled European projection of their own guilt onto its enemies.

The Atlantic is a deeply imperial publication and even its analysis contradicts the bullshit that China’s loans are predatory.

The debt slavery is a part of the European project. Every loan the Europeans give is a trap. Hell, even when they give money away for free it’s a trap - for every dollar given to African countries in aid, 24 are extracted through predatory pricing, predatory loans, mandatory contracts, etc.

I’ll make sure to get the British or Americans to build it instead.

How much are HS2 and CAHSR expected to cost, again? How many decades of delays?

started discussions with other Asian countries for alternative financing deals.

The only other Asian countries with the tech and the money to do HSR are Japan and maybe Occupied Korea. Neither of those are exactly flush with cash at the moment. I also doubt either of them would be able to do it at the same price as China is offering either.

Not a surprise considering China has been pissing off its neighbors by stealing territory around the south China Sea and they pretty much moved to the coast of the Philippines with that.

Phillipines continue to destroy their future by simping for the white man’s burden, just like Japan and South Korea. Will they ever grow beyond being a housemaid factory for neighbouring countries? Its very sad, because once they fall into the trap of IMF leeches, its joever.

Japan is honorary white considering their history of imperialism and racism, not to mention their current financial imperialism. They are not abused by the system - they are the system as much as Germany or Netherlands are.

Phillipines is more like S. Korea in that they are willing participants of the status quo. The difference is that South Korea at least benefits by upholding the current system, unlike Phillipines who does it for free.

They simultaneously treat their citizens like shit but also have one of the best public infrastructure in the world, including 2/3 of the entire network of HSR. Something does not add up.

If China treats their citizens like shit, while “civilised” prospered westerners have to struggle with housing, food and oil/gas prices, then maybe the definition of prosperity and shit has been reversed by clowns like you. The delusion is peaking.
