If it’s too high someone else can out bid you. If we can get it locally we do cause some of the items will take the quote price to space.

No doubt. They’re definitely not the cheapest, but if you need something in a hurry they’re excellent.

Let’s say I’m willing to trade faster delivery for lower cost - is there another site with similar selection that you would recommend?
I ordered some common 1/4-20 bolts from McMaster recently because buying them from the local big-box is an even worse deal, but I did feel like I could get a better price somewhere else.

In north jersey McMaster buys out all the hardware from smaller stores so they can mark them up. Its never an easy find an alternative.

Surprisingly enough, Amazon has a wide selection of bolts/hardware at good prices and reasonable delivery times 2-4 days normally.

Finding the correct bolt size, thread pitch, material, and trusting that when I order grade 8 bolts, I’m actually getting grade 8 makes Amazon quite a pain in the ass.

If it’s something I don’t care too much about, yea Amazon is fine. But when I want to trust my life to it or it’s going to take some serious stress I’m going to want McMaster.

I don’t think you need to worry about sizes (or pitch) everything I have gotten from them has been correct but material and strength (temper) are definitely something to be wary of. So yea if you need ansi strength out of a bolt don’t get it from Amazon, but if you are just using a 1/4"-20 to fasten something together you’re probably fine.
